Genting with Helmi

Since Langkawi I have put on weight.
Whilst everyone was at A Farmosa (so ably won by Razani), a few of us were at Orang Asli.

I ended up tearing up to Genting Sempah with new cycling buddy, "Helmi". He said he went to Genting recently with Robin, suddenly we both decided to go up (I immediately slowed down to conserve energy).

We had a 5 mins rest at GS and left messages we were abandoning the group. I was worried if fat me could do it. Anyway we reached Goh Tong Jaya comfortably enough. A few close calls with speeding buses. Fill up the water bottles, this is it man.

Helmi I only just met a few weeks ago. He is one of the nicest chaps I have ever met. The soft spoken Kuala Pilah type. He must have waited for me ten times on the final stretch. He lectures Mathematics, can't speak English but can understand Robin very well.

I had my moments on the climb. There is one very sharp and suddenly steep turn. Just after the Pagoda is steep and certain other spots. But about 1 km to go, it was quite easy. So save energy for the last steep part in front of the police station.
Anyway I made it without putting my foot down. An average speed of 11.78 km/h from Orang Asli, three hours.

Going down was harrowing. Even pulling the brakes like crazy, the bike would not stop. We stopped a few times to give our fingers a rest.

TOTAL. 79 KM. 4 hrs 30 mins. Only 14.7km/h average speed.
